Team Peugeot TotalEnergies strengthens its driver line-up ahead of the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season by confirming Robert Shwartzman (26) as one of its full-time drivers aboard the PEUGEOT 9X8.

Born in 1999, Robert Shwartzman began karting at the age of five before progressing through the single-seater ranks. He was crowned FIA Formula 3 Champion in 2019 and finished runner-up in the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2021, securing two victories and eight podium finishes during the season.

Following an impressive single-seater career and a role as a Formula 1 reserve driver, Shwartzman turned his attention to endurance racing in 2023, initially competing in GT class. That same year, he set the fastest time in the FIA WEC Rookie Test in Bahrain. He then made an immediate impact on his FIA WEC debut in 2024 by winning the Lone Star Le Mans race at Circuit of The Americas at the wheel of a Hypercar.

In 2025, Robert Shwartzman moved to the United States to compete in the IndyCar Series, where he made headlines by becoming the first rookie since 1983 to secure pole position for the legendary Indianapolis 500. During 2026, he will complete several test sessions with the PEUGEOT 9X8 before joining Team Peugeot TotalEnergies' driver line-up for the 2027 FIA WEC season.

Robert Shwartzman, 2027 Official Driver

"I'm extremely happy to be returning to the FIA World Endurance Championship after my time racing in the United States. Endurance racing is something I've really missed over the past two seasons, and I'm thrilled to be joining Team Peugeot TotalEnergies. From my very first discussions with the team, I felt genuinely welcomed and immediately part of the project, within a highly professional and ambitious environment. The 2027 programme is particularly exciting, and I can't wait to contribute to this new chapter and help write the next stages of the story together."

Emmanuel Esnault, Team Principal, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies

He is unquestionably one of the most promising talents of his generation and already possesses a wealth of experience gained at the highest level in both single-seater and endurance racing. His natural speed, adaptability and maturity make him an ideal fit for our project. He is already fully involved in the preparation of our 2027 programme and will play an important role in the team's future. We greatly appreciate the trust he has placed in us by joining the PEUGEOT Sport Endurance programme and sharing our ambitions. We are committed to building a strong relationship with Robert, both on and off track, with the ambition of writing a successful new chapter together and achieving many future successes."
