CLX Motorsport 1-2 in Incident Packed Race in Barcelona

CLX Motorsport got their MLMC LMP3 title defence off to the best start in Barcelona with a 1-2 finish led by the no97 Ligier JS P325-Toyota of Cedric Oltramare and reigning MLMC Drivers’ Champion David Droux.

The victory is LMP3 Pro/Am went to the no66 Rinaldi Racing Ligier of Steve Parrow and Griffin Peebles, while the no33 Kessel Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 of Murat Cuhadaroglu and David Cleto Fumanelli took the win in GT3.

The race was interrupted by two Safety Cars before an incident at Turns 9 and 10 when the no83 Iron Dames Porsche driven by Marta Garcia was hit by the no51 AF Corse Ferrari of Eliseo Donno, the Porsche going off at high speed into the barriers before bouncing back onto the track. The race was red flagged and Marta Garcia emerged from the badly damaged car, walking away to the medical car, with the 24-year-old Spanish driver being taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

After barrier repairs and with the track cleared of debris the race resumed behind the Safety Car and the race went green with 21 minutes left on the clock.

The marshals were quickly on the scene of the no83 Porsche. Marta Garcia emerged and walked away from the car.

The race was led by the no97 Ligier of David Droux, who had his teammate Pierre-Alexander Provost keeping him honest in the No87 CLX Motorsport Ligier.

Two more Full Course Yellow periods were declared to remove the no62 Bretton Racing Ligier from the T10 gravel trap and the second was to clear a big piece of debris from the track.

The last 8 minutes of green flag running saw the two CLX Ligiers maintain their lead, with the no29 Forestier Racing by VPS Ligier finish third, despite receiving a 10 second time penalty for crossing the pit entry white line earlier in the race.

LMP2 Pro/Am winner: no66 Rinaldi Racing Ligier JS P325-Toyota

Griffin Peebles managed to catch and pass the no58 GG Classics Ligier to take the lead of the LMP3 Pro/Am category in the no66 Rinaldi Racing Ligier.The Australian led a Rinaldi 1-2 as Felipe Laser also passed the no58 Ligier in the final few laps of the race in the no71 Rinaldi Racing Ligier to take second place, with Fraser Ross holding onto third place for GG Classics

The no51 AF Corse Ferrari was given a drive through penalty for causing the collision with the no83 Porsche, which dropped Donno out of lead and promoted David Fumanelli’s no33 Kessel Racing Ferrari into first place, with Murat Cuhadaroglu joining him on the top step of the podium to become only the second Turkish driver to win a MLMC race.

GT3 Winner: no33 Kessel Racing Ferrari 296 GT3

The no11 Code Racing Development Aston Martin Vantage of Philipp Sager and Rory Van Der Steur finished second, with Kessel Racing having a second car on the GT3 podium with the no17 Ferrari of Lorenzo Innocenti and Andrea Belicchi crossing the line 20 seconds after their teammates.

The next race will be in Le Castellet, France, on Saturday 3rd May.
