Grégoire Munster and Josh McErlean head up the team’s campaign once again in a pair of Ford Puma Rally1 cars.
Based in Toyota City, the event takes crews deep into the Aichi and Gifu regions for three days of narrow, twisting stages that wind through dense forests and mountainous terrain. Japan’s asphalt is famed for its low grip, leaf-covered surfaces and sudden changes in road character, while unpredictable autumn weather can introduce rain and damp patches that make tyre choice and consistency critical.
For Grégoire Munster and Josh McErlean, the event presents a key opportunity to demonstrate progress on Tarmac and build momentum heading into the season finale. Munster and co-driver Louis Louka return to Japan with valuable experience from previous seasons, taking home an impressive fifth overall last year.
McErlean made his debut in Japan last year in Rally2 machinery, and will look forward to making the jump up to Rally1 with some good knowledge of the event. Co-driver Eoin Treacy will make his first appearance in Japan, and the Irish pairing will be looking to quickly adapt to the country’s technical and demanding conditions.

M-Sport Ford World Rally Team Principal, Richard Millener, said:
“Rally Japan is always a big challenge for both the team and the drivers. The roads are incredibly narrow, visibility can be limited under the trees, and the conditions can change quickly. Both Josh and Grégoire are eager to deliver strong performances here to round off the Tarmac season on a positive note. They have some good experience in Japan between them, so let’s see what we can achieve.”
Grégoire Munster said:
“Rally Japan is very special to us because it’s where we took our first WRC2 win. It’s a rally that really suits me because there are so many corners and generally narrow stages. The rain can make it tricky, as we often have to choose a mixed tyre package. Japan is quite unique and very different from what we see in Europe, so it’s always great to come here, try the local food, and experience the culture. The fans - whether in the service park, on the stages, or along the liaison sections - are incredibly supportive. It’s amazing to see so many passionate people and fans.”

“It’s great to be back in Japan! I competed here in a Rally2 car last year, so I know how tricky, and also rewarding, these stages can be. After a positive run in Central Europe, the aim is to keep that momentum going and end the event in a good place with M-Sport whilst improving our tarmac pace. I love Japan and its culture, plus the fans are incredible; it’s one of the best places to visit of the season.”
