The category has seen several former stars and leaders shine in the GT4 and Prototype categories and is now preparing to reassert its status as the ideal springboard to Grand Touring.
THE PROS ARE SET TO GO
The start of the season promises to be particularly unpredictable, especially as the Pro category has never been so strong. A title contender until last year's season finale, Léo Jousset (Race Cars Consulting) figures as the driver to beat. With six wins already to his tally, the native of Angers is not the only driver on the grid to have won with the A110 Cup as Laurent Hurgon (Schumacher CLRT) returns to the Alpine ELF Cup Series at Nogaro. Best Gentleman in 2018 and second overall in 2020, he is eager to clinch a fourth or even a fifth success after his 2023 GT4 France and 2024 GT4 European Series titles with the A110 GT4.
Crowned with Charles Roussanne, VPS Racing became Forestier Racing by VPS over the winter. The team founded by Matthieu Vaxiviere, Aurélien Panis and Raphaël Serrano is aiming for the double with its recruits Roee Meyuhas, 2022 GT4 France and GT4 European Series champion, and Louis Rousset, 2021 Mitjet France Trophy winner.
Dethroned last year, Chazel Technologie Course is out for revenge with Romain Monti, a class winner at the 24 Hours of Spa who has gone from strength to strength during his debut in the A110 Cup in 2024. Lastly, Herrero Racing seeks its first overall crown with current FFSA GT Silver French Champion, Victor Weyrich.
A BREATH OF YOUTH
Over the past three years, however, the best Juniors (drivers under 23) have shaken up the hierarchy. Starting at Nogaro, five will try to follow in the footsteps of Lucas Frayssinet, Lorens Lecertua and Charles Roussanne.
Third at Spa-Francorchamps with the A110 Cup before impressing on the French circuits with the A110 GT4, Tom Verdier (Chazel Technologie Course) returns to the Alpine ELF Cup Series grid with high ambitions. Enzo Carvalhido shares this goal with his Sport Auto Racing squad.
Newcomers Lazare Lartigau (Forestier Racing by VPS) and Mathias Cazaux (Race Cars Consulting) aim to continue their ascent of the motorsport pyramid and hope to repeat their success in Mitjet. For his debut in the discipline, Louka Desgranges (Chazel Technologie Course) wants to hit the ground running after winning in the Ultimate Cup Series and Alpine Endurance Cup in recent months.
THE CHALLENGERS SURPRISE?
The Challengers class was introduced in 2023 for drivers between the ages of 23 and 44 without a major title, and Thibaut Bossy (Herrero Racing) is set to defend his crown. Although he is also looking to excel in the general classification, the Damazan native has his work cut out for him against the two rivals waiting for him in the Chazel Technologie Course team.
Ivan Ovsienko, fast in karting and touring cars, looks to build on his class podium with the A110 Cup at the 6 Hours of Abu Dhabi. Spearheading simracing at Trak Racer, a partner of Alpine Sim Racing, Dutchman Johan Akkerman also joins the field to accelerate his ascent in the real world after several promising seasons in the Netherlands.
A RACE WITHIN THE RACE
The Gentlemen class is reserved for drivers aged 45 and over. Frédéric de Brabant has left his throne vacant to take up the Alpine Endurance Cup challenge. Anthony Fournier (Race Cars Consulting) is among the favourites after winning the crown in 2022 and 2023. Nevertheless, his return will allow him to see the huge progress of his former rivals, including Alain Jacono (Chazel Technologie Course) or Franc Rouxel (Herrero Racing Team), who has been present since the 2018 inaugural season.
Paul Paranthoën (Code Racing Development), who is back in competition after an initial A110 Cup campaign cut short by an accident in GT4, and David Barrere (Herrero Racing), who made a strong debut last year at Le Castellet, complete the class.
FUN AND CHALLENGES
The field gathers this week for the season's opening round at Nogaro. The competitors will then battle at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) before the discipline returns to Zandvoort (Netherlands) and Magny-Cours (France). After a new round at Mugello (Italy), the season will conclude at Circuit Paul Ricard (France).
Throughout this 2025 campaign, characterised by the lengthening of races from 25 to 30 minutes plus one lap, drivers will vie for victory, and generous prizes will be distributed equally across all the calendar rounds. The future winner will receive a €50,000 package to move to GT4 with Alpine.
The Michelin-shod Alpine A110 Cup cars will take to the track starting on Saturday. Scheduled for Sunday at 5:15 pm and Monday at 12:05 pm, the first two races of the season will be streamed live on the Alpine ELF Cup Series YouTube channel and Facebook page.
