It all began—or almost—at Spa-Francorchamps in 2018. MissionH24, the collaborative program between the Automobile Club de l'Ouest and H24Project, unveiled its first hydrogen prototype at that time, organizing a refueling session and a track demonstration of this pioneering vehicle. The ACO and Endurance racing continue their commitment to the energy transition through the deployment of hydrogen and the creation of a Hydrogen category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, part of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Everything is yet to be built.
Since then, many milestones in the ACO’s hydrogen program have taken place at the Belgian circuit, such as the installation of the first mobile hydrogen station by TotalEnergies, the first tests of the prototype during the free practice sessions of the Michelin Le Mans Series round, and demonstrations of the LMPH2G, the H24, and Alpine’s Alpenglow in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
In conjunction with the race, a forum for European teachers was organised in 2024 at the circuit by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, the FIA World Endurance Championship, MissionH24, and its partners—the Automotive Skills Alliance, Green Skills for H2, and Hydrogen Europe Research.
In 2026, this will be the third edition of the forum, which combines theoretical courses and practical sessions with hydrogen experts. Helping educators grasp the fundamentals of this new energy source is crucial for future generations.
Spectators at Spa-Francorchamps will have the opportunity to visit the Hydrogen Village, located in the fan zone, and watch demonstrations of hydrogen-powered vehicles on the track on Friday and Saturday.
On the hilly track, on Friday at 12:50 p.m., a hydrogen-powered bus will drive sustainably, with zero CO2 emissions from the exhaust. From Thursday through Saturday, it will be stationed in the fan zone, near the Hydrogen Village, where MissionH24 and its partners will present their latest prototype, the H24EVO. An educational tire from Michelin, made from 71% recycled materials, will illustrate the manufacturer’s progress in decarbonization. Toyota will showcase a display demonstrating its commitment to hydrogen, while those who want to “play” with hydrogen can compete with Horizon Educational’s remote-controlled hydrogen cars and its H2GP program. Technifutur will share the hydrogen-focused training courses offered by the circuit’s training center.
On Saturday at 12:34 p.m., shortly before the start of the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the TOYOTA GR Yaris H2 Concept, with a special driver at the wheel, will rev its hydrogen combustion engine.
