Discovering Hydrogen Racing at Le Mans

Written by

On Thursday, June 12th and Saturday, June 14th, two hydrogen prototypes, the Alpine Alpenglow Hy6 and the Ligier Bosch JS2 RH2, will complete a lap of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit.

Thousands of spectators will discover the future of endurance racing, while passengers in these two pioneering vehicles will test the zero-CO2 emission competition.

The Automobile Club de l'Ouest, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the World Endurance Championship, and the FIA have all invested in hydrogen to decarbonize racing. By 2028, one category will accept hydrogen prototypes, equipped with a combustion engine or fuel cell, storing this energy vector in its liquid form.

Before 2028, some manufacturers are already preparing their future racing machines. On June 12 and 14, track demonstrations will be held featuring the Alpine Alpenglow Hy6 and the Ligier Bosch JS2 RH2. Stéphane Le Foll, Mayor of Le Mans and President of Le Mans Métropole, a former minister, will be a passenger in the Alpine Alpenglow Hy6 on Thursday, June 12, starting at 2:10 p.m. The elected official, who has already tested MissionH24's LMPH2G alongside Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO and Co-President of MissionH24, is actively involved in the deployment of hydrogen to decarbonize mobility and industry in the city and its surrounding areas.

Richard Mille, President of the FIA Endurance Commission, will complete the 13.6 kilometers of the legendary 24 Hours circuit on Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m., alongside Alpine Alpenglow Hy6 driver David Praschl.

International journalists will have the opportunity to climb aboard the Ligier Bosch JS2 RH2 during these two exclusive runs. They will enjoy a unique experience at the heart of the zero-carbon competition, which they will share with their audiences around the world. These "immersive" testimonies play a key role in raising public awareness of sustainable technologies in motorsport.
