Carlin driver ends 2019 on top in Abu Dhabi, ahead of Ilott and Delétraz
Nikita Mazepin finished the final post-season testing session of 2019 in first place, with the Russian impressing in Carlin machinery around the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. The 20-year-old’s time of 1:50.473 in the morning was enough to put him top overall, ahead of Callum Ilott for UNI-Virtuosi and Louis Delétraz at Charouz Racing System.
Formula E has been granted world championship status by the FIA, in a vote that will see the series recognised as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from the start of the 2020/21 season.
Haas F1 Team test driver Pietro Fittipaldi drove the VF-19 on the second and final day of post-season testing Wednesday at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi. A total of 11 drivers participated in the test representing all 10 teams to have contested the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship.
Indonesia’s Sean Gelael and British racer Dan Ticktum join DAMS for the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship season, as the French squad aims to defend its teams’ title and compete for the drivers’ crown.

Sergio Sette Camara took the final Feature Race win of the 2019 FIA Formula 2 season from pole position under the floodlights in Abu Dhabi, sealing the teams’ championship for DAMS which the French squad has dedicated to its late founder Jean-Paul Driot. Formula 1-bound Nicholas Latifi led a double podium finish for the Le Mans-based outfit in the Sprint Race.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton won the final race of the season with a one-stop medium-hard strategy, just like Red Bull's Max Verstappen in second. However, the third-placed Ferrari of Charles Leclerc adopted a different strategy, adding a final soft stint to his medium-hard run plan, to take advantage of the red tyre's extra speed in the crucial closing stages of the race.
Latifi crowned Vice-Champion with second place in Abu Dhabi Sprint Race
Luca Ghiotto made it back-to-back Sprint Race wins to seal third in the Championship and close out his final Formula 2 race with a victory. The win is the Italian’s fifth during his time in F2, and fourth this season, as he brings a close to the 2019 season. Finishing in second place, Nicholas Latifi is crowned Vice-Champion, while his teammate Sérgio Sette Câmara claimed the final podium spot and fourth in the Championship.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has claimed pole position using the Red soft tyre in Abu Dhabi, breaking his own outright track record from last year's qualifying session. Hamilton got through Q2 on the Yellow medium tyre, meaning that this is the compound he will start the race on tomorrow. His team mate Valtteri Bottas along with both Red Bull cars and Charles Leclerc's Ferrari also chose the medium to set their best Q2 times and will also start on medium tomorrow. Hamilton received the Pirelli Pole Position Award from Saudi Arabian motorsport pioneer Aseel Al-Hamad: the first woman from her country to drive a Formula 1 car, and a member of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission.
Brazilian claims maiden F2 feature race win ahead of Matsushita and Zhou
Sérgio Sette Câmara battled to his first Feature Race win in Formula 2 and earned DAMS the Teams’ Championship title in emphatic style under the lights at Yas Marina. The Brazilian recovered from a slow start to finish five seconds ahead of Carlin’s Nobuharu Matsushita and Guanyu Zhou, of DAMS’ title rivals UNI-Virtuosi.
