The Race 1 pole position then put Engstler on the back row of the grid for the second contest of the meeting. However, he was still able to drive up to third on the opening lap, while his teammate – Austrian Nicolas Gruber – had moved into the lead off the start.
Gruber held strong throughout the race to claim a maiden TCR victory on his first outing with the i30 N TCR. Engstler, however, fell back from the podium places in the closing laps after picking up a slow puncture.
Australian Declan Fraser completed the team’s trio of entries for the weekend, taking a best result of fourth away from his i30 N TCR debut.
