Paul Poon took his eighth win in on the Guia Circuit after an exceptional pole-to-flag victory in the 12-lap FOOD4U Macau Touring Car Cup. It was an emotional win for the 48-year-old, who had some technical issues with his car throughout the race, from which the Safety Car interventions provided some respite.

Poon and fellow Hong Kong driver and teammate Alexander Fung (#63) made it a 1-2 finish for the Suncity Racing Team in identical Peugeot RCZ 1600cc Turbos. Crossing the line behind them in third was the hardest working man of the race, Macao driver Felipe de Souza who also claimed the Above 1950cc class win in TA Motorsport’s Audi RS 3 TCR #26.

Leong Ian Veng and Luciano Castilho Lameiras completed the top three for the Above 1950cc class, whilst Chan Weng Tong, in the Son Veng Racing Team’s Chevrolet Cruze, claimed third in the 1600cc Turbo class. The trio placed fourth, fifth and sixth overall.

It was a clean start, with Poon only briefly challenged by his teammate before he opened up a two-second gap. At the end of lap 3, two of the Fu Lei Loi Racing Team’s Mini Cooper S entries, driven by Celio Alves Dias and Leong Chi Kin, came together at Fishermen’s Bend triggering a four-lap Safety Car intervention.

At the restart, de Souza made his move on Fung for second but as he closed the gap, the Mini Cooper S of Lam Weng Kuai spun at Lisboa Bend. Soon after, Cherry Cheung parked her Suncity Racing Team Subaru Impreza WRX near San Francisco Bend bringing out the Safety Car for the second time.

Two laps before the finish, the green flag was waved and, just as de Souza tried one more move on Fung, a Full Course Yellow was called after Lui Man Kit parked his RPM Racing Mini Cooper S at Moorish Hill, ending the race under yellow.
