The news extends a strong, long-term relationship between Formula E and the Indian manufacturer, stretching back to 2013, when Mahindra became a founding team from the first season of Formula E, and the first OEM to commit to the championship at its inception.
That journey is now set to continue until at least 2030, building on a transformative 18 months that has seen Mahindra Racing rise from the back of the grid to become regular podium contenders under CEO and Team Principal Frederic Bertrand, and with the valuable support of the wider Mahindra Group, as it issues a rallying cry to India to ‘Scream Electric’.
This commitment also gives Mahindra Racing the opportunity to continue to use Formula E – a place where sport, human ingenuity and cutting-edge technology intersect – as a platform to take learnings from the track into a wide range of markets.
The vision as Mahindra Racing develops its GEN4 contender is clear – to keep building momentum, chase marginal gains and become an established contender for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in the near future, competing on a global stage against world-class manufacturers.
MAHINDRA RACING IN FORMULA E
Since joining Formula E in Season 1, Mahindra Racing have established themselves as a formidable contender in the championship, amassing five E-Prix victories, 29 podium finishes, 11 pole positions and over 1,000 championship points.
At the heart of that was a revolutionised, re-designed car – the M11Electro – in which the team’s driver pairing of Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara scored five podiums between them in Season 11, en route to a stellar fourth in the World Championship.
Today, the team also launched the M12Electro in India – its successor – the car with which the team intends to continue competing for regular podiums and retain a top-five position in the World Championship this season, cementing its status as ‘one to watch’ in the season ahead.
Formula E is a natural choice for the Indian-based manufacturer, as the epitome of its commitment to deliver cutting-edge EV solutions to customers worldwide. It is a competitive platform for testing and developing new technologies.
WHAT IS GEN4?
GEN4 represents the next generation of Formula E technology and debuts in Season 13 (2026/27) with a brand-new car hitting the track. It promises groundbreaking innovations, including regeneration capacity of up to 700kW, increased power output of up to 600kW, and cutting-edge safety enhancements. These advancements will provide a dynamic new challenge for manufacturers while offering insights that accelerate the development of road-going electric vehicles.
As Formula E enters the GEN4 era, fans can prepare to witness the fastest, most energy-efficient, and technologically advanced cars in the championship’s history. With Mahrindra becoming the sixth manufacturer among other world-leading brands, this exciting next chapter will continue to establish Formula E as a pioneer in electric motorsport and a catalyst for innovation in the automotive industry.
