Nick Cassidy started the grid in P4, after showing strong pace and getting through to the semi-finals of the duels for the first time this season. However, a collision on lap two when Nick was hit by Mahindra driver Edoardo Mortara, resulting in a rear puncture, forced the #37 driver down the grid and an eventual finish of P21.

Mitch Evans was required to serve a number of penalties in the first race in Shanghai, these caused by the need to take new parts following damage after a 26G impact from Mahindra’s Nyck de Vries in Tokyo. As a result, Mitch started the first race in Shanghai at the back of the grid in P22, and also had to serve a ten-second stop-go penalty. With no safety car giving any opportunity to move up the order, Mitch finished in P20.

After a very strong qualifying from Nick, a result of his and the team’s hard work to unlock performance, the incident in the race feels like an incredibly harsh outcome for us all. Nick showed great pace, getting through to the duels for the first time this season and qualifying P4, putting him into a podium-fighting position for today’s race. The collision on lap two ended any opportunity for points, and another incident beyond our control is hugely frustrating. It was overly robust in my view and we were the victim of that over aggression. I’m disappointed for the team who, with Nick, had executed the day perfectly up to that point – Nick recording fastest lap of the race by 8-tenths of a second shows the potential we had today.

“With his penalties we knew what to expect when it came to Mitch’s race today and we planned accordingly. We used the race as a bit of test session as well hoping for a safety car that never came."
